Sunday 21 January - Au Pied de Cochon

It wasn't raining when we got up this morning but the forecast was for rain starting about eleven o'clock.  We had a reservation at Au Pied de Cochon and wanted to it which is close to St. Eustache.  It was spitting slightly when we set out but the rain was fairly heavy by the time we arrived. Malesherbes to St. Augustin then Haussmann to the Opera, Quatre Septembre to Louvre. Good job we had some exercise before the meal.

The restaurant was not very full when we arrived but quickly filled up and there were a number waiting when we left. As usual the service was very friendly and the food was extremely good. The onion soup gratinee is always first rate here and today was no exception. It was very hot and the first thing to do is to carefully make an opening on one side and lower the level of the broth which was very tasty.  The broth soaked bread was very deep indeed and the whole bowl was very filling in itself.

Mary had scallops as her main course and I had Echine de porc confit (pork loin) which was very tender.

The meal was washed down with a half bottle Alsatian Reisling (Mary) and a half bottle of Chinon, Loire, (Colin).  The meal was so filling that we just finished off with coffees with the Pied de Cochon mignardises

It was raining quite heavily when we left the restaurant so we made our way directly to the Sentier metro station with just a sorts side trip to look at the close by green wall which seems to be thriving with all the rain we have had recently.

We made a side trip to pick up a final baguette from Diva et Chocolat and to say au revoir.  They mentioned that they may not be here when/if we return as they are thinking of moving to her home in Reunion where it is 30 at the moment.

It rained for the rest of the day.
